→ For Coloring and Decoration

08 - Red gel food coloring
09 - Green gel food coloring
10 - 1/3 cup colored sanding sugar (red and green), optional (65 g)

# Method:

01 - Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
02 - Beat softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, roughly 2 to 3 minutes.
03 - Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture; beat until fully combined.
04 - Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
05 - Split the dough into three equal portions: leave one plain, tint one red and the other green, mixing the colors thoroughly.
06 - Roll each dough portion between parchment paper sheets into 9 by 6 inches rectangles, ensuring uniform size and thickness; chill for 20 minutes.
07 - Stack the chilled dough layers with the plain at the bottom, followed by red, then green; trim edges to align precisely.
08 - Roll the stacked layers tightly from the long side, peeling parchment away as you go; optionally, roll the log in colored sanding sugar.
09 - Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours until firm.
10 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
11 - Cut the chilled log into 1/4-inch thick rounds and space them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
12 - Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until just set without browning; cool on the sheet for 3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
